Meet the maker
Established in 2025, All Caps Studio is led by Dan Cheek. I have learnt my trade working under some incredibly talented furniture makers. The common ground between all the studios I’ve worked for is the weight placed on high quality, characterful timbers, which will continue through to All Caps Studio.
I try to bring through my own personality into every piece I design and make. All Caps Studio pieces will always try to touch on a sense of fun and play in how they’re seen and used, and will encourage physical interaction as well as just the gaze. The tactility of each piece will be explored through all stages of design and manufacture. Although the aim is to produce gallery-level pieces on an aesthetic level, the life of the piece in its eventual home must also be explored, developed and celebrated.
I like to make pieces that are technically led, with complexities in their joinery and construction, using beautiful, characterful timbers. For bespoke projects, I enjoy building a picture of the space where a piece will live, as well as the context in which it will be used, who by, and how the use will become as enjoyable and as fit-for-purpose as possible. As well as this, creating something utterly unique that will become an heirloom piece is extremely rewarding for both maker and client.
The aims of my design thinking in a studio piece are to:
Fulfil a purpose as a functional piece of furniture
Add to the space with its beauty
Encourage tactility and a playful daily use from the people around it
Be built to last generations
These are my fundamentals for what good design should be and are what All Caps Studio strives for.
